Advocacy: Working to support, represent, educate, or speak up for a person, community, or cause. Advocacy often involves education, communication, working with organizations or government officials, proposing policy changes, and helping people understand their rights.
Activism: Taking direct and visible action to create social, political, or systemic change. Activism may include protests, demonstrations, marches, campaigns, boycotts, petitions, or organized public pressure.
Advocacy = speaking up and working for change (meet with lawmakers).
Activism = taking organized action to push for change (attending a protest rally).
*There is considerable overlap, though, so these aren't rigid categories. Activism can be a form of advocacy, but advocacy does not necessarily involve activism.
